Baraka Center for Three-dimensional Experimentation welcomes two Artists in Residence who will be engaged in creative carving projects. We are very excited to welcome Saak Pogosyan from Armenia and Gabriel Kemzo Malou from Senegal.
Saak Pogosyan
He has exhibited his work widely in his native country Armenia and Los Angeles where he lived for several years. During Saak’s lifetime great changes have taken place in Armenia. His work speaks vividly to many cultures about the challenges and losses experienced as we navigate the rapidly changing and often dispirited modern world.
Gabriel Kemzo Malou
A professional sculptor for more than 15 years, he has been awarded several Artist-in-Residency grants and it was through one such grant in Sweden that he discovered his interest in Public Art and its power to touch a larger audience. He is looking forward to his residency at the Baraka Center as it will give him the time and space to explore questions about how and why we evolve as we do within our particular environments. It is his hope that the placement of his work in the public arena can inspire philosophical and spiritual reflection.
Each artist was given a log from a 70-year old Beech tree that died of natural causes.
